Two of GMA News Online’s special reports have been named finalists in the 46th Catholic Mass Media Awards.

These are “A Constitution Named Freedom: The Interim Charter Under Cory Aquino” by political reporters Llanesca Panti and Hana Bordey and “Wombs for Rent” by Marco Romas of GMA Integrated News’ DigiDokyu.

A finalist for “Best News Coverage” for print, “A Constitution Named Freedom” featured amid efforts to change the 1987 Constitution the narratives by two respected Supreme Court magistrates about how and why then-President Corazon Aquino ordered the quick crafting of a fundamental law to move away from a revolutionary government framework and its “absolute powers.”

“Wombs for Rent” is a finalist in the “Best Investigative Report” category after it told the stories of how women are offering on the internet their wombs as temporary sanctuaries for babies who would be other people’s children with fees ranging from P300,000 to P1 million.

The latter is Marco Romas’ written version of the documentary of the same title he did for DigiDokyu. —NB, GMA Integrated News
