MANILA, Philippines — Francisco “Abeng” Remulla, a Cavite board member, has filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the Cavite gubernatorial race.

Abeng, the son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, submitted his candidacy on Tuesday, October 8, just hours after his uncle, Jonvic Remulla, was appointed as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

He will run for governor alongside Ram Revilla, son of Sen. Bong Revilla, who is running for vice governor.

The Remulla family continues to hold various government positions.

Jonvic Remulla’s appointment as Interior secretary came after Benjamin Abalos resigned to pursue a Senate seat.

Another Remulla sibling also holds a national post as a board member of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR).

If elected, Abeng will continue his family’s stronghold over Cavite’s gubernatorial seat, which Jonvic had held since 2010.

Abeng will face independent candidates Weng Aguinaldo and GB Ber Ado in the upcoming elections.

Currently, Cavite’s gubernatorial post is held by Athena Tolentino, former vice governor, following Jonvic’s recent DILG appointment.
