The Kanlaon Volcano on Saturday emitted a total of 3,244 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Sunday.

Seventeen volcanic earthquakes and three ashing events were also recorded at Kanlaon Volcano located in Negros Island, based on PHIVOLCS’ latest bulletin.

The volcano also effused a “voluminous” 500-meter tall plume, which drifted southwest. Its edifice also remained inflated.

On Saturday, volcanic ash were spotted being intermittently “entrained” or spewed out following continuous degassing from Kanlaon Volcano’s summit crater, said PHIVOLCS.

Alert Level 2 remains raised at Kanlaon Volcano due to an “increased unrest” following its explosive eruption on June 3.

Entry into the volcano’s 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone, and flying any aircraft close to it are prohibited. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may also occur. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
