Kristine death toll soars to 116 —NDRRMC

The number of individuals who reportedly died amid the devastation of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) has increased to over a hundred, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday. 

NDRRMC’s latest situational report showed that of the 116 reported fatalities, 10 were already validated and the rest were still subject to validation. 

Thirty-nine individuals were also reported missing and 109 others were reported injured.

Kristine also affected 6.7 million people or 1.6 million families in 10,147 barangays nationwide. Of them, 980,355 individuals were displaced and had to stay in 6,286 evacuation centers. 

The storm also brought P2.5 billion agricultural damage and P1.5 billion worth of damage to infrastructure. 

It also totally damaged 3,004 houses across the country, while 41,533 sustained partial damage. 

There were 676 roads and 96 bridges that were affected and are currently not passable for motorists. 

The NDRRMC noted that 160 cities and municipalities have also been placed under a state of calamity following the onslaught of Kristine. 

A total of 1,167 cities and municipalities also had to suspend in-person classes, and 782 implemented work suspension. 

So far, over P658.7 million worth of assistance has been provided to affected residents.  —KBK, GMA Integrated News
