THE Nagkaisa Labor Coalition on Saturday said they are endorsing their chairman and Federation of Free Workers (FFW) President Sonny Matula’s senatorial bid for next year’s elections.
In a statement on Saturday, Matula said he is pressing for political reforms (particularly against political dynasties), job security for regular workers, and a nationwide wage increase.
Members of the labor coalition held a summit in Taytay, Rizal, to announce their endorsement of the veteran labor advocate and leader.
“I wholeheartedly express my gratitude to Nagkaisa and FFW for their support for our fight,” Matula said in Filipino.
Meanwhile, Nagkaisa and Matula criticized the House of Representatives for its lack of progress on the P150 wage hike bill, which was stalled in the chamber for eight months.
“The House seems to lack the political will to move forward with the P150 wage hike bill. This delay shows a disregard for millions of workers struggling with rising living costs,” he said.
“We cannot ignore the reality that provincial workers earn far less than Metro Manila workers for the same work. National legislation is needed to enforce fair and decent wages for all Filipino workers,” he added.
Matula’s anti-dynasty stance also includes a goal to represent workers’ voices in the Senate against political families and traditional politicians.
This is the second time Matula is running for the Senate after his first attempt in 2022.
