MANILA Water Co. Inc. said that its third septage treatment plant was expected to be completed by September next year and would provide sanitation treatment services for residents of barangay Baras, Teresa, Cardona, Jala-jala and Morong in Rizal province.
“The Pinugay Septage Treatment Plant is not just a response to increasing wastewater management needs; it is also a significant step toward improving public health and environmental sustainability in Rizal Province,” Manila Water project manager Jocelyn Pagsaligan said.
The P141.4-million Pinugay septage project, with a capacity of 50 cubic meters, is set to be built in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo, and will be equipped with cutting-edge technology for wastewater management, the water concessionaire said.
Components of the project include septage acceptance tanks, grease storage tanks, a dewatering system, a membrane-aerated biofilm reactor and a disinfection facility, among others.
Once the new plant comes online, it will support the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System in expanding sanitation services in the East Zone concession area while ensuring strict compliance with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on environmental standards.
Under Republic Act 11601, which took effect in January 2022, Manila Water was granted the franchise to establish, operate and maintain a waterworks and sewerage system in the East Zone service area of Metro Manila and the province of Rizal for a period of 25 years.
Manila Water shares rose P0.30, or 1.6 percent, to close at P26.30 apiece on Friday.
