VIENTIANE, Lao PDR — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday said more people are coming forward to help in the continuing probes on the alleged criminal activities of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo and illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
At the Kapihan Sa Media following the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, Marcos was asked about the claim of detained Chinese Cambodian tycoon She Zhijiang that Guo was also a Chinese spy like him.
“Well, you know, as this process has been going on, more and more people are coming out of the woodwork to help us in our investigations. And this is just, I think, another one of those,” Marcos said.
“This is just a natural evolution of the hearings that are being conducted in the House. And the—I suppose the case buildup because cases will be filed—have been filed and will be filed against them,” he added.
The President stressed that the government is simply focused on uncovering the truth.
“It’s just the natural process. And we’re… Of course, this helps the effort if people are willing to testify or are willing to provide information that will lead us to the truth. And that is what we are after,” Marcos said.
Guo, also identified as Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, was tagged as a Chinese spy by She in a report by international news channel Al Jazeera.
Furious with the allegation, Guo denied knowing the She and insisted that she is not a spy.
Guo is facing a qualified human trafficking case before a Pasig court as well as a graft case before a Valenzuela court in connection with her alleged involvement in the illegal POGOs in Bamban.
A quo warranto petition was also filed against Guo with a Manila court as well as a petition to cancel her birth certificate before a Tarlac court.
She is also facing a tax evasion complaint as well as 87 counts of money laundering before the Justice Department. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
