The water level of the Marikina River continued to rise on Thursday evening due to heavy rain caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, prompting the local government to raise the second alarm.

As of 10 p.m., the Marikina Public Information Office said the water level has risen to 16.4 meters.

The first alarm was raised in the river at 7 p.m. just a few hours after its water level normalized at 5 p.m.

Metro Manila is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 based on PAGASA’s 8 p.m. bulletin.

Kristine is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, government work and classes at all levels in Luzon remain suspended until Friday. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
