THE Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) conducted a dialogue with tourist boat operators in Sorsogon to strengthen maritime safety and compliance, aligning operations with agency standards while addressing local concerns.
Led by Regional Director Maximo Bañares, Jr., Marina Region 5 convened at the Matnog Municipal Conference Room to discuss renewal processes for the Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) and licensing requirements for boat captains and motormen.
The meeting included representatives from the Tourism Operators and Boatmen Association of Matnog, Matnog’s tourism officer, and the municipal administrator. Operators were reminded to renew their CPCs and licenses before expiration to avoid penalties.

Participants raised several issues, including a potential new route to Biri, Northern Samar, and requests for exclusive operating rights for Matnog residents in local tourist destinations.
Concerns about inactive operators and unreported vessels were also addressed, emphasizing the need for accurate records to enhance safety. Proposals included removing unserved routes and adjusting rates in line with a municipal ordinance.
Marina Region 5 invited operators to participate in upcoming events, such as the Maritime Safety Caravan and the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair, to promote safety and compliance in the maritime sector.
