MANILA, Philippines — As a typhoon batters Taiwan, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) is monitoring the situation of over 150,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and migrants staying there.
With the bad weather expected to prevail over the next few days, MECO said it received reports of panic buying among Taiwanese citizens.
MECO, however, said there were no reports of untoward incidents involving Filipinos.
Filipino community organizations in Taiwan were advised to coordinate with the nearest MECO offices for any emergencies.
OFWs are also reminded to adhere to the advisories of Taiwanese authorities for their safety during the typhoon.
MECO assured OFWs that its personnel, including the Migrant Workers’ Offices in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, are on hand for any emergency.
