Old faces in the political scene have fied their certificates of candidacy (COC) over the weekend.
Former president Rodrigo Duterte is eyeing a comeback as mayor of the city with his son, incumbent mayor Sebastian, sliding down as vice mayor.
This was the revelation of Duterte during a live press conference Saturday night.
The presscon with local media in Davao was held at his residence and was aired over SNMI.
The former president said the desire to run for higher position is there but his body cannot do it anymore because of his age
“You think I can still carry a national campaign? At my age? Do you want me die? The desire is there but matrabaho kasi yan. Baka mag collapse ako. I will be required to travel a lot, physical movement but di na kaya Ng katawan. The desire to become a senator is there but Ang problema ang katawan natin di na kaya,” he said.
“I am ready to retire but I am open to suggestion. What do you want me to run? Mayor? Is that the popular clamor? Is the sentiment of the media reflects the community? Yan ba Ang gusto ng mga tao?”
As this developed, Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel has submitted his candidacy for the congressmanship of the First District of Marikina, Oct. 6.
The revitalization of the city’s shoe industry is at the top of his priorities.
“The country will not advance if the politician does not have a word of honor,” the senator emphasized.
He will face incumbent Marikina Mayor Marcelino “Marcy.”
Outgoing Congressman Pantaleon Alvarez has filed his certificate of candidacy as Vice Governor of Davao Del Norte Saturday afternoon.
Alvarez was a no show at the Comelec’s office in Capitol on Saturday but he sent his representative Audrei Perez to file on his behalf.
Perez is also running as board member. He filed his COC last week Alvarez in a text message Sunday morning confirmed that he is running.
“Yes, I confirmed I filed my COC for vice Governor yesterday,” he stated in a text message.
Alvarez will be running under Reporma party.
Meanwhle, Mayor Krisel Lagman Luistro filed her certificate of candidacy for congressman in the 1st District of Albay in the 2025 midterm elections.
She was a congresswoman before seeking the mayorlaty post at Tobaco.
