MANILA, Philippines — Razon-led MORE Electric and Power Corp. has energized the newly rehabilitated Molo Substation in Iloilo to improve electric service and minimize brownouts in the city.

The power distributor owned by tycoon Enrique Razon Jr. started the rehabilitation of the facility in July last year, tapping EEI Power Corp. as the contractor.

The project involved replacing outdated and unreliable equipment, such as the control system and the switchyard, to make the substation more reliable and automated.

“The Molo Substation had been in operation for 23 years without proper maintenance, leading to frequent equipment malfunctions,” MORE Power president and CEO Roel Castro said.

While the substation was being upgraded, the company said a mobile substation provided temporary power to keep the electricity supply running smoothly.

With the substation now fully operational, MORE Power project management and development head Armil Logarta expects that power interruptions will be reduced.

“The integration of this modern substation into Iloilo City’s power system also allows for smarter load management, ensuring that MORE Power can swiftly respond to fluctuations in demand,” Logarta said.

The company said that the mobile substation would now be relocated to another facility, which is also set to undergo rehabilitation starting this month.

These upgrades affirm MORE Power’s commitment to enhancing Iloilo City’s power infrastructure and ensuring stable, reliable and future-ready electricity supply for consumers.
