MANILA, Philippines — Following the directive of newly appointed Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, National Capital Region Police Office director Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia yesterday affirmed his commitment to purging the NCRPO of corruption and misconduct.
“Punishing erring police officers and rewarding good deeds should both be swift to maintain balance,” Hernia said. “Much work needs to be done for internal police reform.”
Hernia said the NCRPO would also strengthen the war on drugs and enhance police visibility.
A multi-agency approach is needed to combat the illegal drug trade, Hernia said, adding it should involve the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, local government units and the community.
Hernia replaced Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. during a turnover ceremony at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig on Wednesday.
Nartatez was appointed acting deputy chief for administration, the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s second highest post.
Hernia previously served as director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.
