There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following a powerful earthquake that struck Tonga early Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” PHIVOLCS posted.
With this, the agency said, there is no action required from the community.
PHIVOLCS issued the advisory following the report by the U.S. Geological Survey report that a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Tonga. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
