MANILA, Philippines — Almost 1,000 ambulances or patient transport vehicles (PTVs) will be procured by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
The PCSO set an approved budget of P2.198 billion for the public bidding of 956 PTVs.
The deadline for submission of bids is on Oct. 28.
In July 2022, the charity agency sought the distribution of 2,000 PTVs nationwide within three years, according to PCSO general manager Melquiades Robles.
Geographically isolated areas will be prioritized in the distribution, he said.
“This program is sought after by local government units. Mayors and LGUs want an ambulance for their constituents,” Robles told The STAR.
“These PTVs are being given by the national government with no strings attached. We just have one request from beneficiary LGUs: please take care of these vehicles,” he noted.
The PCSO procured 225 PTVs in 2022 and 379 in 2023.
Each ambulance costs P2.2 million and is equipped with a stretcher, oxygen tank, blood pressure monitor and a wheelchair.
