The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) said it is exploring a strategic partnership with a leading Taiwanese aquaculture company based in Pingtung County.

It said a possible collaboration with the Taiwanese firm, which was not identified, would develop the Philippines’ aquaculture industry and contribute to the nation’s food security goals.

“This partnership will not only enhance food security but also create jobs and contribute to sustainable economic growth,” said PEZA director-general Tereso Panga who led the Philippine investment delegation to Taiwan.

The company, recognized for its advanced aquaculture technologies and sustainable practices, is a major producer of high-value seafood products, particularly grouper.

Leveraging on their expertise and innovative techniques, the Philippines can significantly enhance its domestic aquaculture capabilities, according to Panga.

PEZA said it is engaged in discussions with the Taiwanese company to identify potential areas of cooperation, which may include technology transfer, joint venture projects and capacity building initiatives.

The agency is also exploring the possibility of establishing special economic zones dedicated to aquaculture, offering incentives and a conducive regulatory environment to attract foreign investment.

PEZA and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Taipei also explored collaboration opportunities with the Kaohsiung Linhai Industrial Park.

The visit allowed PEZA to benchmark the best practices implemented at Linhai and identify complementary areas for collaboration between the two agencies.
