Newcomer Geraldine Jennings wraps up movie, drops debut single

Newcomer Geraldine Jennings is dubbed by her management as the next talent to watch in local showbiz. And it’s only natural for the Fil-Brit beauty to feel optimistic, given that she is represented by the same agency that manages the careers of well-known artists such as Ogie Alcasid, Lovi Poe, and Janine Gutierrez. She is, so to speak, in good hands.

At just the start of her career, Jennings is already making waves with her debut film Isla Babuyan and her new single “If I Will Ever Love Again.” The actress and singer, who is also an aspiring beauty queen, is diving headfirst into local showbiz, even tackling a challenging character in her launching movie.

Recently, Jennings returned from London, having traveled apart from her supportive mother, Gina. Despite her busy schedule, she is managing to balance her studies at the University of London with her blossoming showbiz career in the Philippines. 

“I’m flexible with my studies. My university is very accommodating, so when I have a project, I can come back to the Philippines,” she said during the launch of her debut single last week.

Her new single, released under Star Music and penned by Ogie Alcasid, is already attracting attention. Jennings revealed that the accompanying music video features Mister World Philippines 2023 and Superbods winner Kirk Bondad. 

“You can watch it on the ABS-CBN Star Music YouTube channel,” she said.

Meanwhile, filming for Isla Babuyan has recently concluded. The film tells the story of Anastassia, played by Jennings, a half-Pinay, half-European woman returning to the Philippines to reconnect with her mother. During her visit, she falls in love with Jordan, portrayed by Jameson Blake, only to encounter resistance from Jordan’s disapproving stepmother.

Directed by Abdel Langit, the screenplay was crafted by Jessie Vilabrille based on a concept from Jennings’ late business manager, Leo Dominguez. Expressing her appreciation, Jennings said, “I’m really grateful but at the same time, I’m really sad that Tito Leo Dominguez was not able to be here to watch it because it was his last project before he passed away.”

Talking about her experience filming Isla Babuyan, Jennings described the process as natural. 

“I know how to kiss, so it was fine. It’s just for work,” she explained, praising her co-star Jameson for his professionalism and attentiveness. “It’s comfortable. It’s not awkward at all. I would say we have good chemistry in the movie.”

When asked about the most challenging aspect of filming, Jennings cited the dramatic scenes and the frigid beach water they had to work in. 

“The water was freezing, and we filmed at around 11 at night, so I had to pretend it wasn’t cold,” she shared.
