PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos were off to Jakarta, Indonesia, to attend the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Sunday, Malacañang said Saturday.

Acting Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez said Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited Marcos and the first lady to the occasion.

“The Philippines and Indonesia are celebrating their 75th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations this year. The attendance of President Marcos and the first lady at the inauguration of the Indonesian President and Vice President reaffirms the deep and enduring friendship between the two nations, founded on close people-to-people ties,” Chavez said in a statement.

In 2022, after being sworn in as President, Marcos visited Indonesia.

Chavez said Widodo reciprocated by visiting the Philippines in January.

“This exchange of high-level visits is testament to the strong bilateral relations between our two democratic and maritime countries. The President’s attendance in the inauguration also signifies the Philippines’ sincere commitment to further expand and deepen bilateral relations,” he added.
