The Quezon City (QC) Council on Friday held a special session via video conference to pass a resolution declaring a state of calamity in the entire locality.
The resolution authorizes the QC government to use available city and barangay calamity funds for the benefit of flood-stricken residents and other disaster response related purposes.
Vice Mayor Gian Sotto and Majority Leader Dorothy Delarmente led the special session and introduced the measure to help the victims of severe tropical storm ‘Kristine.’
“Now that the resolution has been passed, barangays can now use their Quick Response Fund to meet the needs of the flooded residents,” the QC government said in a Facebook post.
The city government said it evacuated a total of 2,518 families or 8,880 individuals due to threats of landslides and floods during the height of the tropical storm.
