SEDITION and inciting to sedition charges were filed on Thursday before the Department of Justice against lawyer Israelito Torreon, legal counsel of embattled pastor Apollo Quiboloy and 11 members of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KoJC).
Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director BGen. Nicolas Torre III said the charges stemmed from attempts to prevent the serving of arrest warrants against Quiboloy and his co-accused on August 24 to 26.
Torre added authorities were aggressively prevented by KoJC supporters from serving the warrants by barricading their compound and closing down roads near the area, as well as misleading and attacking police officers.
He said the violent actions of KoJC members include setting tires ablaze and hurling food, solid waste, monobloc chairs and stones, as well as spraying fire extinguishers at policemen.
Inciting to sedition charges were also filed against former National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict spokesman Lorraine Badoy and Lord Byron Cristobal for allegedly posting seditious videos on their Facebook page.
“We want to assure the public that our prosecutors are on top of the situation, this case will be handled thoroughly with utmost diligence and fairness,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a statement.
