MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Imee Marcos on Wednesday was the first to arrive at The Manila Hotel to file her certificate of candidacy for a second term in the upcoming national and local elections for 2025.

The sister of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. filed her CoC, accompanied by her sons, Borgy and Michael, and her mother, former first lady Imelda Marcos.

“I was the 19th candidate to file for senator. I filed under the Nacionalista Party, my former party, but I am not an ally of any sector or group, so I choose to remain independent and strong,” Marcos told reporters in Filipino.

She further reiterated that she does not want to ally with the administration coalition, citing that there were too many “colors, ” as well as a mixture of political parties, and she does not want to close the door on other sectors and said she wanted the endorsement of the Filipino people.

Marcos was originally part of the slate of her brother’s administration coalition but begged off.

“It’s very important for me to cross the line and to speak to every sector and get the work done,” she said.

The President’s sister is the second Senate candidate to run for re-election, after Sen. Francis Tolentino filed his CoC on Tuesday.
