THE 32nd National Developers Convention 2024 in Davao City on Oct. 10-11, 2024, will address the housing sector’s challenges and opportunities while developing a unified strategy to tackle the country’s growing housing needs.

The goal is to finalize a joint resolution to strengthen the housing sector with recommendations from government officials, developers, suppliers, technology proponents, financing institutions and beneficiaries.

Organized by the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association (SHDA), in partnership with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), the event will focus on the Unified Housing Roadmap for 2025-2040.

SHDA National Chairman Ar. Leonardo Dayao Jr. said that the roadmap will guide “both government and private stakeholders with strategies, policies and targets to help meet housing needs for the next 15 years.” Industry stakeholders are currently incorporating their inputs into the first draft.

SHDA, an industry association for housing and development, has more than 350 members nationwide and eight regional chapters.

Davao City was chosen as the location for the convention to strengthen regional participation and respond to the housing challenges in the area.

According to SHDA National President Atty. Joy Manaog, “Mindanao, in particular, offers vast opportunities for housing development, and we aim to generate greater interest and investment in the region.”

The convention will align the Unified Housing Roadmap with the Marcos Administration’s flagship Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program (4PH).

DHSUD will present details of the program’s implementation to encourage private-sector participation.

Aside from the Philippine Development Plan and Housing Industry Roadmap, the convention will discuss streamlining permitting processes, the development potential of emerging local government units in Mindanao, financing and incentive mechanisms for the housing sector, best practices for sustainable and resilient housing, and success stories from Mindanao-based developers.
