Singer-lawyer Atty. James Patrick (Jimmy) Bondoc and former vice presidential candidate Wilson Amad on Sunday filed their respective certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 Midterm Elections at the Manila Hotel Tent City.

Bondoc said if given a seat in the Senate, he would work on the creation or adoption of treaties that would give artists international recognition.

“Music and entertainment is an economic force and labor force and ang pwersa na ito ay hindi pa optimized pa sa ngayong panahaon, ‘di tulad sa ibang bansa na gamit na gamit,” Bondoc said.

“Sa Senado ang kapangarihan niyan ay mag-concur ng treaties. We can encourage the adoption or the creation of treaties para tayo po ay magkaroon ng pakikipag-ugnayan sa ibang bayan and to exchange talent and our music force para umunlad ang turismo at makilala ang kultura ng Pilipino globally,” he added.

(Music and entertainment are an economic force and labor force, and this force is not optimized in this age unlike in other countries. The power of the Senate is to concur with treaties. We can encourage the adoption or the creation of treaties so that we have a relationship with other countries, and exchange talent and our music force to elevate our tourism so that our culture will be known globally.)

In 2017, Bondoc became the vice president for corporate social responsibility of the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR).

He was later appointed as a member of the board of directors of PAGCOR.

Meanwhile, Amad said he plans to eliminate the “middle man” in food production to lower basic commodity prices and increase social pensions.

“Dapat mag-sacrifice ang mga executive. That’s the beauty of sacrifice for the common people, mga pensioner. Dapat i-increase ‘yung collection para matugunan ‘yung maging pantay ‘yung minimum wage sa mga pensioner,” Amad said.

(The executives should make a sacrifice. That’s the beauty of sacrifice for the common people, the pensioner. There should also be an increase in collection so that the pension would be as high as the minimum wage.)

He also believed that the passage of the Anti-Dynasty Bill should be voted by the people.

“Anti-dynasty bill should be voted by the people, not the Senate, not the Congress. Political dynasty is not the will of God kasi ang gusto ng Diyos iba-ibang pamilya ang mangangalaga sa bayan (because God wants that different families will take care of the nation),” Amad said.

In 2022, the Commission of Elections (Comelec) declared Amad a nuisance candidate for failing to prove that he had a bona fide intention to run for vice president and that his popularity in Northern Mindanao would be enough to launch and sustain a nationwide campaign.

The Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order against Comelec’s declarations but Amad’s name was not included in the May 2022 election ballots.

Meanwhile, Junbert Guigayuma, a member of the Higaonon Indigenous Peoples, also filed his COC on Sunday.

Guigayuma said if he secures a seat in the Senate, he will work on establishing an anti-land grabbing and anti-syndicate task force commission to avoid tampering with ancestral lands.

“Ito po ay katulad ng tinatawag na independent constitutional commission tulad ng Civil Service Commission, COA (Commission on Audit), na kahit anong administration ay mananatili,” Guigayuma said.

(This is what we call an independent constitutional commission like the Civil Service Commission and COA that remains despite the change in administration.)

The filing of COCs runs until October 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. —KG, GMA Integrated News
