MANILA, Philippines — Former Public Works secretary Rogelio Singson, now president and CEO of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., has been named Management Person of the Year 2024 by the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP).

This was announced during the MAP’s General membership meeting yesterday.

The “MAP Management Person of the Year” is awarded to individuals in business or government, who have demonstrated unquestioned distinction in the practice of management and have made valuable contributions to the country’s progress.

It is given to those who are considered exemplary models that should be emulated by their peers and younger generation of leaders.

The award, which has been conferred 48 times, is based on the following criteria: integrity, leadership and management qualities; contribution to nation-building and values formation; and effective stewardship within the confines of the highest standard of business and management practice.

MAP said Singson was bestowed the recognition for implementing a good governance and anti-corruption program in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Under his leadership, the DPWH transformed from being perceived as one of the most corrupt agencies to becoming an efficient line agency.

MAP also cited Singson’s contribution to re-shaping national values by being a model of humility, ethical conduct and spiritual uprightness.

The business group said Singson is also a model for Filipino managers through his unblemished track record of integrity, managerial competence and professional leadership in his management career in both private and public sectors, particularly in the areas of public-private partnership, tollways management, water and power utilities privatization, airports, seaports and resorts.

In addition, Singson was recognized for his active role in the MVP Group’s contribution to national development through the creation of jobs and income opportunities.

Singson said the recognition comes as a surprise to him.

“We were just doing our job and I apologize to the companies and entities that were hurt by decisions I made in the past. I was just doing my job,” he said.

He said it was part of his upbringing to always do his best.

“I did not expect the recognition but what else canI say, but thank you,” he said.
