MANILA, Philippines — Pollutants contributed to the smog seen over Metro Manila yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said it is unlikely that volcanic smog from Taal has reached Metro Manila.
“The volcanic smog is still concentrated over the Taal Caldera region,” Phivolcs said.
The agency noted that the wind speed within the area is low, decreasing the possibility of volcanic gasses reaching Metro Manila.
“The smog observed in Metro Manila may still be attributed to anthropogenic pollutants,” Phivolcs said.
It said the air quality in Metro Manila has not been affected by Taal’s volcanic activity.
