Tony Ynot is back in the fold for De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and the Blazers are now armed with one more warrior ready to step up when needed.
The 24-year-old guard’s late heroics against Emilio Aguinaldo College propelled the Taft-based squad to its fifth straight victory on Sunday as it continued to sit on top of the standings with an 11-2 card.
In Benilde’s 69-65 win against the Generals, Ynot, who is still recovering from an ankle injury he sustained weeks ago, delivered 14 points and grabbed four rebounds that went with four assists.
“A lot of credit to Tony. He hasn’t practiced at all in almost three weeks. He wasn’t sure if he was gonna play, so sabi namin suit up ka na lang in case we need you for an emergency,” said Benilde head coach Charles Tiu.
“I wasn’t even expecting to play him that much. In my head lang talagang kailangan. I guess kailangan but sa start parang siguro lumabas ‘yung adrenaline niya. Nakita niya we were down big against this team. And he wanted to help out.
?
“So I tip my hat off to Tony for battling it out like a warrior. Because the sprain’s really bad and thankfully nagawan niya ng paraan to play. Hopefully, he will be able to recover for our next game,” he added.
?
Ynot, meanwhile, is followed by a sweet relief as he plans to make the most of the next elimination round’s games as Benilde nears a Final Four berth.
?
“Sobrang saya kasi kakabalik ko lang. Kinaya ko ‘yung sakit pero nakatulong ako sa team and coaches,” Ynot said.
While Ynot has yet to reach full recovery, Tiu said what matters in one of his reliables’ return is the attitude he brings to the team.?
“He’s a competitive guy, ayaw niya pabayaan ‘yung teammates niya. That’s a leader, that’s a winner for you. He made his presence right away. I don’t think we would’ve won without Tony today,” he added.
