ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Five houses made of light materials were destroyed by a twister that hit a coastal village in this city yesterday.
No one was reported killed or injured in the incident that occurred at past noon in Barangay Cawit.
Resident Mubin Balanay said the twister came amid heavy rains and tore off roofs and toppled trees.
Gemma Araneta said their belongings were drenched after the roof of their house was blown away.
Meteorologists said the weather disturbance was caused by a localized thunderstorm and had nothing to do with Tropical Storm Julian.
City officials distributed relief goods to residents displaced by the bad weather.
