MANILA, Philippines— The Palace on Thursday, October 10, declared that classes and government work are suspended in Pasay and Manila City from October 14 to 15 for the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR).
The APMCDRR will be hosted in collaboration between the Philippine government and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
“In view of the numerous participants expected to travel to and within the Cities of Manila and Pasay on 14 and 15 October 2024 for the opening of APMCDRR in PICC (Philippine International Convention Center), and to allow for the organized conduct of the APMCDRR, work in government offices and classes at all levels in the Cities of Manila and Pasay shall be suspended on 14 and 15 October 2024,” Memorandum Circular No. 66 read.
However, government agencies whose functions include the delivery of basic goods and services will still continue operations.
The memorandum circular was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Thurrsday, and uploaded to the Official Gazette on the same day.
The conference will run from October 14 to 18, bringing different sectors together from across the region to the Philippines.
