MANILA, Philippines — The Shorts feature on YouTube will be extended from a maximum of one minute to three minutes beginning October 15.
The update long requested by creators is part of the platform’s efforts to encourage users to make more engaging videos, at least in terms of duration or length.
YouTube is also adding more updates to its Shorts feature. These updates are focused on user creativity.
Users will have easier access to YouTube clips of various kinds, directly from the Shorts camera. They can also check out templates, which are introduced to simplify creation. A new Trends page is being added.
There will also be an option to “Show fewer Shorts” on the now-streamlined player, where users can customize the kind of content that they prefer to be prioritized on their feeds.
