TWENTY-FIVE Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) were included in the 2025 Asia University Rankings, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) said.
CHEd Chairman J. Prospero de Vera welcomed the announcement, noting it was proof of the capabilities and potential of Philippine educational institutions.
“The country is witnessing a growing presence of Philippine universities recognized not only in Asia but across the world. This trend aligns with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to internationalize Philippine HEIs and strengthen their global reputation,” he added.
Asia University rankings was an initiative of international education analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds.
Quacquarelli Symonds Vice President Ben Sowter said Philippine universities have built a strong reputation among international employers and were characterized by a robust international agenda.
“Meanwhile, its skyrocketing academic renown represents a highlight for the country in this year’s rankings,” Sowter added.
This year’s Asia University rankings showed that the University of the Philippines was the top university in the country at 86th, a noticeable drop from its 78th ranking last year.
Following UP was Ateneo de Manila University (142nd place from 137th last year), De La Salle University (163rd from 154th last year) and University of Santo Tomas (181st from 179th last year).
Adamson University, University of San Carlos-Cebu, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Mapua University, Silliman University, and Far Eastern University completed the top 10 schools from the Philippines.
Other Philippine universities that made it to the list were Ateneo de Davao University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Saint Louis University-Baguio, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Mindanao State University-Marawi, Xavier University, Cebu Technological University, Central Luzon State University, Central Mindanao University, Central Philippine University, Angeles University Foundation, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, University of Southeastern Philippines, University of Southern Mindanao, and Western Visayas State University.
The West Visayas State University, Angeles University Foundation, University of Southeastern Philippines, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, and University of Southern Mindanao made their debut in the QS Asia rankings, while Central Luzon State University, Central Mindanao University, Central Philippine University and Cebu Technological University re-entered the list after a brief absence.
