MANILA, Philippines — Philippine universities and colleges’ increased presence in world rankings indicates the growing profile of the country’s tertiary education offerings, according to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Twenty-five Philippine schools landed in the 2025 QS Asia University Rankings.
Of the number, nine universities entered the list for the first time.
“The country is witnessing a growing presence of Philippine universities recognized not only in Asia but across the world. This trend aligns with the directives of President Marcos to internationalize Philippine HEIs (higher education institutions) and strengthen their global reputation,” CHED chairman J. Prospero de Vera III said over the weekend.
West Visayas State University, Angeles University Foundation, University of Southeastern Philippines, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines and University of Southern Mindanao have debuted in the international assessment.
Central Luzon State University, Central Mindanao University, Central Philippine University and Cebu Technological University re-entered the list after a few years’ absence.
University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas slipped in the QS Asia rankings, indicating how their counterparts in the region are improving faster in terms of academic excellence, school resources, research, labor practices and internationalization.
