Bataan 2nd district Rep. Albert Garcia acted as one of the guarantors to facilitate the release — without bail —of the 41 arrested foreigners from the raided business process outsourcing firm in the province.
According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, also acting as guarantor was Central One Bataan’s spokesperson Cherry Anne Dela Cruz.
“It’s more difficult than just paying cash bail because when you release them under recognizance you are taking responsibility for them,” Dela Cruz said.
The guarantors made sure that the foreigners have a clean record.
“Walang intervention (There’s no intervention), there’s no form of influence to be able to do this,” said Dela Cruz, adding the 41 people are under their custody.
GMA Integrated News reached out to Garcia for comment.
Meanwhile, the Freeport Area of Bataan, an agency attached to the Office of the President, said Central One contributes to the province’s economy.
“Central One Bataan PH, Inc. (Central One) has been a vital contributor to the economic development of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB), providing employment to over 1,500 workers, predominantly Filipinos who compose approximately 95% of the total workforce,” the statement read.
But the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission maintained that the company is involved in illegal activities, noting that at least four foreign workers have criminal records in different countries.
“May mga record ng scamming, human trafficking tsaka drugs,” said PAOCC executive director Gilbert Cruz.
(They have records of scamming, human trafficking, and drugs.)
“So ang nakita namin dito ang operation nila parang nagha-hire sila na hindi nila natsi-check mabuti yung background ng mga workers nila doon.”
(So what we have seen is that they hire people without checking their backgrounds.) —LDF, GMA Integrated News
