Seven people including an 8-year-old child were killed in a landslide in Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya amid the onslaught of Severe Tropical Strom Pepito.
In an interview with Super Radyo DzBB, Christian Sevilla of the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the fatalities were members of the same family. The saturated soil from Pepito, then a typhoon, resulted in a landslide that engulfed their house in Sitio Hukhukyong in Barangay Labang on Sunday.
Two of the fatalities were female, while five of them were male.
Sevilla said the landslides occurred in a residential area but no other houses were affected by the incident.
He added that the relatives of the fatalities will receive financial aid.
Sevilla also said five to six landslides occurred in Nueva Ecija due to Pepito.
He added that clearing operations are ongoing as trees also fell and blocked the road.
PAGASA said Pepito left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday noon. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
