BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The Baguio Water District (BWD) is seeking additional sources and facilities to address the city’s growing demand for water.

BWD general manager Salvador Royeca on Tuesday said the city’s need for water increased as economic and social activities have bounced back from the effects of the pandemic.

The city’s average daily water need is 50,000 liters, which is higher by 5,000 liters from the 45,000 liters daily supply, according to Mark Pasagoy, BWD information officer.

The demand increases to 55,000 liters daily during peak season, or from December to May.

Royeca said that after the pandemic, the BWD applied for a loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines and the money was used for water and supply augmentation projects.

The water utility has been laying new pipelines to provide more people access to clean and potable water.

Royeca said the BWD proposed upgrading and upsizing existing distribution lines to address water shortage during summer.
