As Moana 2 hits cinemas today, November 27, Filipino moviegoers are in for a treat. For when end credits roll, they will hear “Anong Daratnan,” the Tagalog version of the movie’s official soundtrack, “Beyond,” playing.
“Anong Daratnan” is dubbed as the the first-ever Filipino song that will be played on the big screen in a Walt Disney Animation Studios film.
The voice behind the track is no less than that of Belle Mariano, one of today’s most in-demand multi-media artists.
“Moana is one of my favorite Disney characters, and I’m really emulating her fearlessness in my rendition of this song,” Mariano said in a statement.
Rachel Fong, Studio General Manager and Integrated Marketing Director, The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia, said in the media release that a significant factor in Moana’s success, beyond its stunning visuals and compelling narrative that delves into universal themes of self-discovery and courage, is its enchanting soundtrack, which has resonated with audiences around the globe.
“By collaborating with local talents like Belle for Moana 2, we hope fans in the Philippines resonate deeply with the beautiful lyrics of ‘Beyond’, and experience Moana’s excitement as she embarks on a new voyage to explore the far seas of Oceania,” Fong said.
A follow-up to the global hit, “Moana 2” reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers.
After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. Directed by David Derrick Jr., Moana 2 features the voices of Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as Moana and demigod Maui, respectively.
