MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has confiscated smuggled cigarettes worth about P2.5 million that were found abandoned in Cagayan de Oro City last month.
The contraband was found in a 10-wheeler truck parked in Barangay Puntod on Oct. 24.
Authorities said the truck was loaded with up to 10,750 reams of illegal cigarettes.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS)said the Northern Mindanao police informed them about the entry of smuggled cigarettes into the city.
On Nov. 4, Arthur Sevilla Jr., district collector of the BOC-CDO, issued a warrant of seizure and detention covering the cigarettes and the truck.
Last Friday, the BOC-CIIS based at the Manila International Container Port found sacks of dried tobacco and filter rods worth P694.4 million in a warehouse in Guiguinto, Bulacan.
