THE first of many, a provincial caravan recently held at the SMX Convention Center in Olongapo City sought to align local efforts with broader national goals by promoting action plans to protect the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Director Cyrill Cusi of the Strategy Formulation and Development Branch at the National Security Council of the Philippines presented the National Security Policy 2023-2028, which outlines a “strategic framework to address the complex challenges facing the country’s security, sovereignty and national interests.”
Zambales Gov. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. stressed the importance of laying a solid foundation for future generations, urging everyone to adopt a forward-thinking mindset.
Evaristo Abello, president of Central Luzon State University (CLSU), which hosted the event, said they could empower local fisherfolks through livelihood programs using university-generated technologies.
Lilian de Leon, DILG assistant secretary for international relations, highlighted the significance of sustainability and institutionalization mechanisms to ensure the long-term success of the initiatives being implemented.
According to the CLSU Strategic Communication Office, future caravans will be conducted in other provinces to promote environmental protection and national security through the collective efforts of government agencies, academic institutions and nongovernment organizations.
