MANILA, Philippines — The Catholic Church will be ready to engage in dialogue with potential candidates in the 2025 midterm elections, according to Archbishop Martin Jumoad of the Archdiocese of Ozamiz in Misamis Occidental.

In an interview yesterday with Church-run Radio Veritas, Jumoad pointed out that poll bets should put in their hearts and minds the principles of compassion and good governance.

He added the Church would continuously support programs upholding accountability, integrity and care for constituents among government officials.

“We in the Church are more willing to dialogue (with) our candidates so that whoever will win, the agenda for good governance espoused by the church will be best remembered by them,” said Jumoad.

He added, “Our people deserve leaders who can deliver the basic services so that society will really become peaceful.”

Radio Veritas noted the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines would not endorse any candidate in the upcoming polls.

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula made a similar pronouncement, but pointed out he would welcome candidates who seek his blessing and even pose with him for photos.
