CICC to public: Report scams to authorities

THE government’s Inter-Agency Response Center (IARC) has advised victims of scams to report the incident to authorities rather than “rant on social media.”

Victims of online scams can make a report to the parent or main financial institution or through them using their hotline 1326, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) said.

CICC’s advice came after several Gcash users reported on social media that they lost money from their accounts.

GCash calmed the public by saying that a “system reconciliation process” resulted in errors but assured the public that their money and accounts were safe.

“We encourage the public to please report to CICC if they were affected by the recent e-wallet losses. We may be able to assist them if they call 1326 so they can be assisted in the investigation instead of posting their losses on social media,” CICC Executive Director Alexander Ramos said.
