“Omron’s resilience through the pandemic was thanks to our mission of empowering health and reducing risk for Filipinos. Our commitment to listening and adapting to customer needs demonstrated our organizational agility.”
WITH over two decades of experience in the health care industry, Benjamin Agbulos was well-prepared to take on the role of general manager at Omron Healthcare Philippines in January of this year.
“Before joining Omron, I held various roles in pharmaceutical and health care companies, working my way up through sales, local and APAC (Asia-Pacific) marketing positions,” Agbulos shared with The Manila Times. “Now, I am part of the C-suite (high-ranking executive titles).”
Omron, known for its extensive range of medical devices and health equipment for both home and clinical use, offers products such as digital blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, compressor nebulizers, portable pulse oximeters, electronic nerve stimulators and digital thermometers.
Reflecting on his career, Agbulos notes that one of the biggest challenges has been “turning vision into action and creating a lasting impact on the organization and the lives it touches.”
Though Agbulos joined Omron after the pandemic, he recognizes the challenges the organization faced during Covid-19.
“Adapting to a noncontact environment was crucial, especially for a tactile product segment like ours. Accelerating e-commerce to meet customer and patient needs was essential,” he explained.
“Omron’s resilience through the pandemic was thanks to our mission of empowering health and reducing risk for Filipinos,” he continued. “Our commitment to listening and adapting to customer needs demonstrated our organizational agility.”
Agbulos is proud to be part of such a reputable company. “Working for a company that positively impacts people’s lives is a unique and rewarding experience,” he said.
The company has seen substantial growth, driven by increasing awareness of cardiovascular and related diseases. “This awareness has fueled Omron’s expansion,” Agbulos stated.
“With new product launches and partnerships with key trade and health organizations, Omron Healthcare Philippines is one of the fastest-growing subsidiaries in the APAC region.”
Recently, Omron Healthcare Philippines signed actress Jolina Magdangal as its brand ambassador, marking the company’s first celebrity partnership in years.
“We chose Jolina because of her commitment to health, family and career,” said Agbulos. “As a mother, she knows that prioritizing her own health is the best gift she can give to her family. This understanding has kept her relevant and admired for 35 years.”
Omron has also strengthened partnerships with organizations like the Philippine Society of Hypertension. Agbulos believes that connecting with health care organizations and professionals is a key advantage as it supports both organizational and individual health initiatives.
Agbulos originally aspired to become a doctor, inspired by his uncle, a pioneering plastic surgeon in the Philippines.
“I was often involved in medical missions that helped children with cleft palate,” he recalled. However, financial constraints led him to pursue a career in health care and pharmaceuticals instead, where he has built a 25-year career.
A graduate of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Agbulos has continued his education in marketing and leadership.
Outside of work, Agbulos enjoys playing competitive badminton, a hobby he has pursued for 22 years. He also values quality time with loved ones through conversations and travel. His daily routine starts at 5 a.m. and involves a mix of meetings, strategic coordination and family time on weekends.
Reflecting on his influences, Agbulos credits his parents as role models, saying, “The biggest lessons I learned from them are patience, diligence, resilience, faith in God and trust in His timing.”
