Dasmariñas City in Cavite has been placed under a state of calamity following an increase in dengue cases, with 928 infections recorded this 2024 as of November 6—nearly four times higher than the 233 cases reported during the same period the previous year.

The declaration, based on Resolution No. 435-S-2024, enables the local government to mobilize resources and implement strategies to address the outbreak effectively.

Mayor Jenny Austria-Barzaga emphasized the urgent need for action to curb the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

“It is of dire importance that necessary measures be taken to prevent further spread of the virus,” she announced.

“All are advised to spread awareness and be informed about what Dengue is, and what we can do to avoid it,” she added.

The symptoms of dengue include:

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Skin rashes
  • Nausea and vomiting

To combat dengue, the local government is advocating the 5S strategy:

  1. Search and Destroy – Eliminate mosquito breeding sites by removing stagnant water in containers.
  2. Self-Protection Measures – Wear long-sleeved clothing and use insect repellent.
  3. Seek Early Consultation – Visit a doctor immediately when symptoms appear.
  4. Support Fogging Operations – Participate in mosquito control measures during outbreaks.
  5. Sustain Hydration and Cleanliness – Maintain clean surroundings and stay hydrated.
