DENGUE cases across the country went down by 8 percent during the period of Sept. 29 to Oct. 12, with only the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Quezon) still experiencing case increases, the Department of Health (DoH) said Thursday.
The DoH reported 21,097 dengue cases during that period, down from the 23,032 reported during the week of Sept. 15 to 28.
The NCR reported 3,002 cases, up from the 2,765 during the previous week.
Central Luzon had 2,765 cases, also up from 2,219. Cases in Calabarzon rose to 3,513 from 2,907.
The death toll from dengue remained low at 0.26 percent, which the DoH attributed to better health-seeking practices and improved health care delivery.
It said the rainy season could have likely increased the number of breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
The DoH said it is maintaining close collaboration with local government units when it comes to dengue prevention and testing.
Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said that while cases of dengue continue to decline, the public should not become complacent and continue preventive practices.
