Kevin Quiambao had a rare off game in De La Salle’s 58-53 escape against Far Eastern University on Wednesday.

Far from his usual numbers, the reigning Most Valuable Player only had two field goals made to finish with eight points, but grabbed 13 rebounds in the win.

Quiambao admitted that he has yet to find his footing following the recent short break where he also made time for his family.

“So far, so good. Nasa phase kami na dine-deload namin lahat ng load na trinabaho namin these past few weeks, and then, this coming week hinahayaan kami [to rest] stretching into the season para iwas-injury. So, for me, ‘yung break na ‘to malaking tulong at crucial, lalo na sa akin [galing pa ako] sa binyag ng anak ko,” said Quiambao.

The La Salle star admitted to telling the coaching staff about his feel of the game, and it was a good thing that his fellow Green Archers just followed the system.

“Kahapon pa lang sinabi ko na sa coaches na wala ako sa sarili ko at hindi ko naibalik ‘yung condition ko nung last few weeks na trinabaho namin. Sabi ko nangangapa ulit ako, and ganito pa lang ‘yung feeling nun. Good thing is lahat kami rito ay capable na maglaro at ‘yung system ine-execute lang namin,” he detailed.

Likewise, La Salle tactician Topex Robinson is glad to see the rest of the rotation thriving and stepping up with no problem as the Taft-based squad climbed 11-1 in the standings.

“I have to repeat, KQ is one of us. But he’s not the whole of us,” said Robinson.

“There will be times where KQ will have those games, but this guy (Mike Phillips) will take over for those lapses,” he added.

Robinson also praised Quiambao for admitting his struggles.

“Even KQ doesn’t wanna go in because he knows he’s struggling which is normal. What’s important here is he trusts this system. You never see KQ act up even if he’s not part of that endgame. There will be times that he’s gonna be the supporting guy, but there will be times that he’s leading us,” Robinson said.

“KQ has been struggling, too. He’s been tired. So, there will be times like that. It’s just nice that guys are stepping up. They’re gonna take advantage of the opportunity to play,” he concluded.
