IN honor of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their sacrifices for the country, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Friday kicked off its holiday celebration by lighting its Christmas tree made of balikbayan boxes at its head offices in Mandaluyong City.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, along with his family and senior agency officials, led the ceremonial tree lighting with OFWs in attendance.
According to the agency, the ceremony “marks the celebration of the joyous season with light and hope in the hearts of OFWs and their families.”

“This lighting ceremony is our way of acknowledging the love and hope that OFWs bring to our nation, even from afar. Christmas is a season of love, giving, sharing, and family, and of course, our dear OFWs. Mabuhay po kayo!” Cacdac said.
The specialized Christmas tree, according to the DMW, symbolized the “sacrifices, generosity and unwavering love” of OFWs and their families.
In the weeks leading to the tree-lighting ceremony, Filipinos from several Middle Eastern countries arrived home after availing through the agency’s repatriation programs.
