An executive order designated the “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program” of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as a flagship program.
Signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Executive Order No. 76 stated that the declaration of the “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program” as a flagship program will ensure the assistance of national and local government agencies in establishing a “collaborative learning program.”
Launched in 2023, the “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program” is a community-based social welfare and development program that aims to help elementary students improve their reading skills while offering short-term work to tertiary students.
Under the flagship program, the DSWD is tasked to establish the following components:
- Identification of eligible beneficiaries
- Formulation of learning and development activities
- Development of databases for progress reporting
- Creation of evaluation and monitoring framework for the program
The DSWD is also responsible for sending an annual report on the status and progress of the program’s implementation to the Office of the President and determining the appropriate organizational structure. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
