FIRST Gen Corp. (First Gen) said Friday that it had signed an agreement with HCG’s Philippine subsidiary, Hocheng Philippines Corp. (HCG Philippines), to build a solar power facility for a manufacturing plant in Cavite.
First Gen and its sister company, Pi Energy Inc., will build the 660-kilowatt solar plant within HCG’s 10-hectare facility in Dasmariñas in Cavite.
The solar plant will allow HCG, a Taiwan-based global bathroom solutions provider, to reduce its carbon emissions and cut down electricity expenses.
“Our goal is to pursue excellence in building healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving products,” HCG Philippines Senior Vice President and Officer in Charge Eugene Lin said.
“We build better designs to reduce our overall impact on the environment as over the years, we have completed several initiatives that contribute to our decarbonization objectives and we are committed to using green energy,” Lin added.
First Gen and HCG have been energy partners since 2020. HCG forged a contract with First Gen in 2020 for the supply of 850 kW of clean energy from the Bacon-Manito geothermal plant of First Gen subsidiary, Energy Development Corp., located in the Bicol Region.
“We are honored to be part of the journey of HCG in the Philippines towards a decarbonized and regenerative future,” said Mark Malabanan, First Gen’s assistant vice president for solar.
“We look forward to a growing partnership to lower HCG’s carbon emissions by using clean energy to power operations and integrating energy efficiency solutions.”
HCG was founded in 1931 in Taiwan to address the growing demand for proper sanitation. The company has since ventured overseas and expanded its portfolio to include bathroom fixtures and solutions that cater to different needs, market segments, and facilities.
First Gen shares closed Thursday up 0.22 percent at P18.02 per share.
