SEN. Bong Go commended current and former senators for their service to the Filipino people during the Philippine Senate’s 108th anniversary celebration and highlighted the institution’s contributions and commitment to public service.
Go emphasized the steadfast dedication of present and past senators for the common good of Filipinos during the event on Nov. 6, held at the National Museum in Manila.
“With every session, every law passed and every debate, we demonstrate our commitment to our fellow Filipinos,” Go said.
He urged his fellow senators to continue working collaboratively for the betterment of the nation, stressing that the welfare of the Filipino people, especially the poor and marginalized, should remain at the forefront of their legislative efforts.
“The Senate’s legacy of service is an unbreakable bond with the people. I am certain that our collective work will continue to bring about positive change, helping more Filipinos to live with dignity and opportunity,” the senator said.
Reflecting on the institution’s vital role within the government, Go is committed to honoring the Senate’s legacy by remaining a staunch advocate for the welfare of the people.
He emphasized that the Senate would continue to be a guiding force, bridging the nation’s storied past with its aspirations for the future.
“Let’s continue to work as one Senate, putting the needs of the Filipino people above all else. Each of us has a role to play, and together, we can uplift lives and strengthen the nation,” he said.
In a broader message to all Filipinos, Go shared words of encouragement, calling on the people to hold on to hope and to believe in their capacity to shape a better future.
Initiatives for Filipinos
The senator from Mindanao has championed several initiatives that have made a substantial impact on the lives of Filipinos. These include Republic Act (RA) 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act, which he principally sponsored and authored.
Currently, there are 166 Malasakit Centers across the country, providing accessible medical assistance programs to the most vulnerable Filipinos.
As chairman of the Committee on Health, Go also principally sponsored 74 laws to upgrade or establish several public hospitals in the country.
As the author and co-sponsor of RA 11470, he supported the creation of the National Academy of Sports (NAS) to nurture young Filipino athletes and provide them with a strong foundation in academics and sports.
NAS combines secondary education with a sports-focused curriculum, offering a dual path for student-athletes to excel in their sports and academic endeavors.
Furthermore, his efforts toward the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act have equipped the country’s firefighters with the resources needed to protect communities effectively, modernizing the force to meet the demands of the times.
Go has been instrumental as principal author and co-sponsor in pushing for the enactment of RA 11589, signed into law by then-president Rodrigo Duterte. The act mandates the modernization of the BFP to improve its capacity to prevent and respond to fire incidents.
Go also authored and co-sponsored RA 11641, the Department of Migrant Workers Act, consolidating all government agencies related to overseas employment and migration.
The new Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will oversee the functions previously handled by various offices, including the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, and the National Reintegration Center.
Go also served as an author and co-sponsored RA 11466, or the Salary Standardization Law V, which increases the salary of civilian government personnel, including teachers and nurses. This is a necessary reward for our civil servants to recognize their work and accomplishments.
Among other legislative achievements, Go underscored his dedication to making health care, education and public safety more accessible to every Filipino and his support for improving workers’ lives, including the proposed wage increase and benefits for government employees.
