President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. assured the public that both local and national governments are fully mobilized to protect lives and provide relief as the country braces for a series of typhoons.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Seatrade Cruise Asia 2024 Welcome Reception in Parañaque City, President Marcos detailed ongoing efforts to clear roads and position resources to aid affected areas.
“Even if there’s a storm, even if the wind is strong, they are outside because they can handle it,” Marcos said, praising responders working to remove fallen trees and restore access.
“They can still work to clear the fallen trees and those posts that fell so that our relief goods can pass through,” he added.
According to the President, the government is closely monitoring Severe Tropical Storm Nika, which, although weakened, continues to impact Ilocos Sur and surrounding provinces.
President Marcos noted that equipment and relief supplies have been strategically prepositioned, enabling response teams to act swiftly once storm conditions permit.
“We’ve followed the usual standard procedure by prepositioning our equipment and relief goods,” he said.
The President acknowledged the complex challenges posed by the rapid succession of storms, stating that the government is coordinating a thorough response while also preparing for another strong system located 3,000 kilometers off Luzon’s coast.
He also urged citizens to heed local government instructions, emphasizing that local government units (LGUs) are prepared to be first responders, with national agencies ready to step in once conditions improve.
