THE country’s newly launched first Subnational Competence Center (SNCC) for Health is designed to provide communities targeted climate information services addressing climate-induced health issues. It will be a hub for collaborative research and various climate change services, including risk assessments, adaptation strategies and community-level mitigation planning.

With its launch on Nov. 4 hosted by the Ilocos Norte-based Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), the SNCC is part of the South-South Collaboration on Climate Information Services (SSCIS) Project, in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit of Germany, the Climate Change Commission (CCC) and the University of the Philippines Manila-National Institute of Health (UPM-NIH).
