Three ash emission events were reported in Kanlaon Volcano on Sunday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Monday.

In its bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the three ash emission events lasted from 10 to 12 minutes. This number of ash emission events is higher compared to the two incidents recorded on Saturday.

A total of 25 volcanic earthquakes were reported over Kanlaon Volcano, which are also higher compared to the 11 recorded on Saturday.

The volcano emitted 3,010 tons of sulfur dioxide gas on Sunday.

A voluminous emission of plumes reaching up to 800 meters tall and a continuous degassing with occasional ash emission were observed from the volcano, which drifted to the southeast direction.

The volcano edifice is also inflated, according to PHIVOLCS.

PHIVOLCS said Alert Level 2 remains over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is an increased unrest and sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the volcano.

Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
